What to do when an influencer declines
Declines aren't personal, they're usually about scope, timing, or fit. Read the reason, fix the gap if possible, re-invite later if the misfit was timing-only.
Common decline reasons
| Reason | What it means |
|---|---|
| Budget too low | They want more, you can counter or skip |
| Out of scope | The brief mismatches their niche or audience |
| Timing | Deadline too tight or conflicts with other commitments |
| Exclusivity | They have an exclusive with a competitor |
| No reason | Often just “not feeling this one”, don’t read too deep |
How to respond
- Budget gap < 30% → counter with the higher offer
- Scope mismatch → don’t re-invite for this brief; revisit when content fits
- Timing → re-invite with a future campaign
- Exclusivity → respect it; check back in 6 months when contracts often expire
Re-invite cool-down
30 days minimum between invites to the same influencer for the same brand. Earlier than that and Keepface flags it as spam.
