Notifications and unread badges

A new chat message raises the red badge on Messages, writes an in-app notification and can push to the Keepface app, but it is never emailed one message at a time.

Keepface signals a new message in three places, and you control all of them from one screen.

In the panel

  • A red badge on the Messages row in your influencer sidebar, carrying the total unread count across brand threads and Circle direct messages
  • An unread count on each thread row in the list
  • The thread jumps to the top of the list when it receives something new

The badge and the counts clear when you open the thread. Nothing is marked read just because it scrolled past in the list.

In your notification inbox

Each incoming brand message also writes a notification titled “sender sent you a message”, carrying the first part of the text, or a label such as a photo or a voice message when there is no text. Opening it takes you to the conversation.

On your phone

If you have the Keepface app installed and notifications allowed, the same events arrive as push. Chat pushes carry the sender’s name and picture. See Turn on push notifications.

The channels, and which ones chat uses

Keepface can deliver an event over four channels: in-app, email, WhatsApp and Telegram. Not every event uses all four.

EventChannels used
New chat messageIn-app only (and mobile push, which follows the in-app setting)
Circle direct message, message request, request acceptedIn-app, and their own toggles
Mentioned in a circle chat, reply to your circle messageIn-app, and their own toggles
Campaign invitations, approvals, payoutsThe channels you leave enabled for each event

A per-message email is intentionally not sent.

Change what you get

Everything is a per-event, per-channel switch under User account → Notification preferences. Every combination starts on, and only the ones you switch off are stored. See Notification preferences.

Two things worth knowing before you start switching things off:

  1. Push follows in-app. Turning off the in-app channel for an event also stops the phone push for it.
  2. Workspace scope. Work events are set per workspace, so an influencer profile and a company workspace under the same login can have different settings. See Your User account vs your workspace.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get an email every time a brand writes to me?

No. Chat messages are deliberately in-app only, because one email per message would flood your inbox. Campaign events such as an invitation have their own channels.

How do I stop chat notifications completely?

Turn off "New chat message" for the in-app channel in your notification preferences. That also stops the mobile push for it, because push follows the in-app setting.

Why does the badge not clear when I read on my phone?

It does, but the web page updates on its next check a few seconds later. Reading in either place marks the same thread read.

Do Circle direct messages use the same setting?

No. Circle has its own events, including a direct message, a message request and a mention in a circle chat, each togglable on its own.

Is there a sound?

Not in the web chat. Sound is whatever your phone plays for a Keepface push.
